Scott McCabe


Scott has worked at the Nottingham University Business School for five years. Until recently, this was as part of the Christel DeHaan Tourism and Travel Research Institute, where from July 2009 he held the position of Acting Director and deputy Director. Prior to joining Nottingham Scott worked for the Centre for Tourism and Cultural Change at Sheffield Hallam University and as a senior lecturer at the University of Derby, where he was responsible for developing and running two MA programmes in conjunction with the Swiss Hotel Management School in Montreux, Switzerland. Scott is also a visiting Research fellow at Sheffield Hallam and a visiting lecturer at Angers University in France and at Wageningen University in Holland. He has delivered many lectures and seminars, most recently being invited to participate in a PhD workshop on Paradigms in Tourism Theory at the University of Tromso, Norway in November 2011.

His research interests are focused on tourist experience, marketing and consumer behaviour particularly on issues around social equity and social tourism. He has led numerous research projects on social tourism since 2008, and is currently leading a two-year knowledge transfer partnership together with the Family Holiday Association in London. He has also completed many market analyses and led projects to evaluate destination marketing campaigns, as well as projects examining management skills needs within the tourism industry. He has been involved with EU projects as well as undertaking consultancy. He has published two books, and over thirty journal articles, book chapters and other publications on subjects ranging from the theoretical links between tourist experience and everyday life, definitions of a tourist, marketing communications, re-enactment events, and holiday talk. Scott is interested in language and discourse, and has published widely on the application of ethnomethodology to tourism studies.
