Message from the Mayor of Athens
Mr Yorgos Kaminis
In a period of difficult circumstances for world tourism, the promotion
of specialized knowledge and the discovery of expertise in issues regarding
tourism development and destination marketing represent a necessary
prerequisite.
I am certain that the 8th IMIC 2012 Conference will once again become the
center of interest for tourism industry, as this kind of events allow us to
view the future of convention tourism in Athens with optimism.
Greek gastronomy is indisputably a powerful development tool for Greek
tourism. Gastronomy is a unique element and fundamental tourism
incentive, and therefore we must make the most of it.
Our task is to transform Athens into an all year-round competitive
destination, thus strengthening the entire local economy. The City of Athens
and I personally will support events like IMIC 2012 that reinforce tourism
development and contribute to the marketing and promotion of Athens.
I would like to wish every success in the works of the conference, with
productive and creative thinking that will offer specialized knowledge and
effective action for the future of tourism.
